Paediatric First Aid to be implemented as a mandatory requirement for staff in early years settings

The Department for Education has recently outlined the government’s response to the Pediatric First Aid (PFA) Consultation, detailing that newly qualified early years staff will need to hold a current PFA or emergency PFA certificate to be included in an early years setting.

The requirement will be implemented from September 1st 2016 and affects newly qualified early years staff with full and relevant level 2 or level 3 childcare qualifications.

Childcare providers will be given a three-month ‘grace’ period to complete PFA training after starting work with a new employer.
